Project Description
MEnD was engaged by RCR Resources to conduct a defect survey for the plastered façade elements of the Evan Davies Building located on South Terrace in Fremantle, WA. The Heritage listed building was undergoing a major façade refurbishment including works to the rendered façade elements and timber balconies.
MEnD completed a comprehensive survey of the façade defects to allow the refurbishment works to be scoped. The defect survey included testing of the existing coating quality and lead content. The works were completed over the weekend to not delay the progress of site works.
The MEnD team’s experience with heritage building façade refurbishments was drawn upon to assist with the determination of the existing render material composition. Scanning Electron Microscopy Petrography, Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy and X-ray Deification analysis were used to characterise the materials.
